[He affirms it quietly to himself too, before he pats the boy's head.]

It was going to happen one way or another. It helped in the end...

[He was about to say 'he didn't mind it', but he really did, so he stops himself.]

...Kurosaki said not getting rid of it was worse, because... Because I didn't tell you. ...And now it's too late...

[There is silence. And he feels Tsukikage's hand between his antlers, the boy driven to launch himself for a hug once again.] I...

I'm sorry, Tsukikage..! I'm really...more than anything..! I'm sorry...

[He supposed Kurosaki was right, but he lets Reira hug him and he hugs back, leaning into the boy's embrace. He strokes his head, speaking softly still.]

It's alright, Reira-dono. I know you are... I forgive you.

[And though hurt, he'd be sure Kurt would as well.]

[He does not say anything-not anymore. For a while there is simply silent trembling against the arachne's form, breathless tears staining his clothes. Eventually though, he stops moving altogether-eyes closed, body limp...

Sleep, as it seems, has claimed him at last, and he slumps against the other's form.]

[Tsukikage smiles once the boy is finally asleep and he holds him close. After a moment, he picks Reira up, slowly and carefully walking towards the boy's bedroom and tucking him in. Tomorrow would be the start of a new day... he'd have to prepare for it one way or another.]

I promise... I'll protect you for as long as I can. [He murmurs, pulling the blanket up, and putting both teddies securely in Reira's arms.]

I'm a trained ninja. I have secured myself a number of tools in advance, including but not limited to silver knives, kunai, swords, and explosives of my own design. I also have means of starting fires very quickly if need be.

I can fully understand and respect your wishes to keep the child in your care safe. Your weapons of choice should arm you against a variety of possible monsters, but you'll be able to fight off some much more effectively than others. Do you have allies to fight with you, or are you alone?

That's the idea. I do have allies that are willing to fight with me, but I'd rather do this by myself. It's not their fight. I'm significantly more trained than all of them bar one as well.

So you're confident that no matter what kind of monster "L Lawliet" is, you'll be able to kill them?

I've been careful to go over monster's weaknesses, and safeguarding my own even before this event. If I'm not, then I deserve to die.

That's a little harsh. Even very smart people make mistakes and slip up sometimes and that hardly makes them deserving of death. How have you been safeguarding your own weaknesses?

That is true, but I judge myself harsher than I do others. I must if I'm to protect myself and my clients.

- Light weight armour- leather and flax- under my clothes.
- Oils to make sure I don't burn.
- Therapy.

Therapy? I fail to understand what you mean by that.

Protects my mind. My form comes with a lot of interesting quirks, and though normally they wouldn't be a problem, they are ones that can be taken advantage of during combat. Talking to someone is as much of a precaution as procuring a weapon.

What "quirks" affect you mentally? I find that interesting and feel that it would be useful to know.

[For, you know. A good few reasons.]

Meticulousness, for most part. Not quite at the point of OCD, I can say confidently, but it's fairly bad. I usually fair calmly in situations, but if the details of my work or things are out of place, I get very frustrated. Makes it easy to clean the house, but I dislike being irritated every time I go out to Bavan and see a bottle on the floor.

[Hell, when L hears talk of arachnes and their particular tendencies, he's actually pretty surprised he didn't end up as one himself. They seem to describe him to a T. Then again, he realizes that a person's nature isn't always indicative of the monster they'll become, which stings, because he was so partial to that theory when he arrived.]

I understand what that's like and do not consider it a negative quality. Perhaps it will help you survive the encounter you're about to endure.

[L's right, it isn't always indicative, but still L probably doesn't match since he lacks the maternal instincts most arachne have.]

Like I said, it has proved useful in the past, and I hope it will continue to, but I hope for it not be be a manipulated quality in the future.

[Truly, L's "maternal instincts" are reptilian at best.]

In what ways are you afraid it could be manipulated? Someone coming at you in a way that forces you to focus on organization rather than the matter at hand?

Being concerned with order and the way things are done down to precision... If given the chance for study, my habits makes me predictable. It's not ideal.

[There are others but he won't share them. He's not that comfortable around this guy just yet.]

There are still a few chatting firemen there when he arrives-none who wish to talk to him, of course. They're busy speaking with the landlord, who long assumes his tenants are deceased. Slipping past to stare up at the ashes though...

[Tsukikage takes a longer time to get back. While he thankfully does not have to endure the agony of a transformation or the new legs, he does have to figure out where he is. However, once he does, he hurries home as fast as he can, to where smoke and ash replace the fires he had once seen.

The man looks frantically around for Reira, expertly evading anyone who may have stopped his entry, and he almost cries in relief himself when he sees the boy. He hurries towards him, but when he is close, he slows down. He can see that expression and...]

... Reira-dono...

[Tsukikage kneels down behind him, four arms touching the ground, blue skin standing out more than ever.]

T-Tsuki- [He starts to call for the other, but as he turns he balks. It is as if the ninja were covered in ash through to the bone, his skin darkened and grey-blue, his new arms practically the same. The boy's eyes are wide, and a thought comes to his mind.

Did that fire...

...It was what he'd feared back then, but...] Tsuki...kage...
