When you set out to murder, well and truly murder, you don't let running away stop you. You see your prey run and if you have already decided to kill, you start running after them. I don't like solving things with murder. I fact, it should be a last resort, but if you ever find a situation you can't run from or resolve peacefully, it's often how things end up.

... I prefer knocking them out though.
